I’ve got a gift for you!
I want to give you a gift!
One that will make you feel loved, treasured, and refreshed. One to allow you to take good care of yourself by practicing biblical self-care.
But first let me explain a little behind my passion about biblical self-care.
I imagine most of us can say we’ve had a time of feeling like life is too much. One of those times happened for me when my family first moved to Charlotte 23 years ago for my husband’s job.
We knew no one in this new city, and my husband was a pilot, meaning he was gone a lot. This left me, an infant, and a toddler at home in our little apartment.
Although excited about our new venture, I also found myself feeling drained, lonely, and longing.
I longed for a relative or friend to watch my kids so I could take a little break. I longed for fellowship with other Christian women. A nap sounded like the best thing ever. Or maybe a nice meal–fixed by someone other than me– instead of the frozen chicken nuggets I was eating off the high-chair tray.
I would experience many more draining and stressful times in the years to come, leading me to some mental and physical health issues.
It took me a long time to learn that biblical self-care can help us avoid getting to that place of complete overwhelm, breakdown, or unwellness (I’m not sure that’s a word, but it fits!).
Or it can help us cope when there’s a lot in our life we can’t control, things we have to do and can’t take off our plates.
Learning that self-care is really a biblical thing, it’s not selfish or indulgent, can change our perspective and help us take good care of ourselves.
In fact, Jesus invites us to take good care of whole selves- spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and relationally.
As I’ve been practicing biblical self-care in my own life and also writing about it, I am convinced more than ever that we need to take good care of ourselves.
That’s why I’m so excited for my Taking Good Care Giveaway!
